The inspiration and power of nature is ever present in the tiny islands of Turks & Caicos, the sea a fabulous ever changing display, the sky rising away in all directions – and quiet, tranquility an ever presence. Pine Cay itself, protects this natural treasure, where few disturb the local flora and fauna. I am increasingly conscious of the rarity of such privacy.

While many private communities do indeed close themselves off and try to create an isolated environment, and with some success – nowhere else but Pine Cay offers the luxury of an 800 acre private island with only 36 homes. The sense of privacy and pervasive calm is awesome, as you walk the silent beach and drive the deserted roadways. I find my mind drifting peacefully away, my body stretching slowly into relaxed contentment…the spaciousness, greenery and sound of the waves soothing all.

I first visited Pine Cay in 1998, to discuss local handcrafts with some interested members. I can truly say that not much has changed in the last twelve years! Yes, of course, maintenance, repainting, upgrades, landscaping has all been kept immaculate – but the tranquility of Pine Cay’s quiet roadways and the silence of the immense beach is still a rare treasure in our bustling busy lives. It is a lovely way to begin 2010, with some days here among friends, basking by the turquoise sea……giving thanks for my many blessings.
